Our classrooms are equipped with authentic Montessori materials encouraging children to explore, learn, and master skills independently. Every single piece of Montessori equipment has a purpose.
The Montessori curriculum contains materials and activities that are sequential in nature, and build upon previous experience, they are of maximum benefit to children who start the program at age three and continue to the end of their Kindergarten year. Therefore families are strongly encourage to make a three-year commitment.
Practical Life: The materials develop fine motor control, concentration, order, care for the environment and care for oneself..
Sensorial Activities: The sensorial materials isolate each sense and help develop each sense further including the visual (The sense of sight), auditory (the sense of hearing), tactile (the sense of touch), and olfactory sense (the sense of smell.)
Language & Literacy: A focus on developing a child’s verbal language through vocabulary building activities, preparing the hand to write, learning the phonetic sounds of the letters of the alphabet and gradually through a very specific reading scheme learning to read phonetically and then non phonetically.
Mathematics: Focusing on the quantities and symbols 1-10 and doing everything with the numbers 1-9 including adding, subtracting and multiplying. Following this, learning about the decimal system: the unit, ten , hundred and thousand using beautiful Montessori golden beads and then working on the operations of addition, multiplication, division and subtraction.
Cultural Studies: Geography, zoology, botany, and history introduced in age-appropriate ways with the use of amazing hands on, concrete montessori materials
Music is a cornerstone of our Early Childhood program. Through daily Orff sessions, children develop key skills:
Listening & Focus: Rhythmic patterns and songs enhance attention to detail.
Collaboration: Group music activities foster teamwork and social bonds.
Creativity: Singing, movement, and instrument play encourage self-expression in a joyful environment.
Orff music is more than an activity; it’s a tool for cognitive and emotional development that aligns beautifully with Montessori principles.
Montessori’s Peace Education instills respect, empathy, and global awareness in children. Through a very specific peace curriculum including learning about peacemakers, Montessori grace and courtesy activities and community projects in conjunction with the elementary children, children learn to resolve conflicts peacefully and embrace inclusivity and diversity.
Our multi-age classrooms foster a collaborative atmosphere where:
Younger children learn by observing the older children .
The kindergarten children( our oldest children) develop leadership and mentorship skills.
This dynamic creates a sense of community and shared responsibility, enhancing both social and academic growth.
Having a three hour uninterrupted work cycle allows children develop their concentration to focus on a material of their own choice and complete it
Have time for everything: socialising, interacting with the materials, developing their academic skills and never feeling rushed
Allowing for deep concentration in the third hour when most of child’s learning takes place.
A typical day in the Early Childhood program balances structure with freedom, ensuring children can thrive in a supportive environment.
Children and parents are greeted by a teacher at the beginning of each morning.Children independently choose activities that align with their developmental needs, guided by trained educators. Activities range from practical life tasks like pouring and sweeping to art, language ,and math, geography, zoology, botany exercises and a visit to the music room.
Children practice grace and courtesy as they prepare and serve snacks at a time for themselves and their peers. When they want to children bring a snack from home.
At the beginning of each morning We have a Community Meeting where songs, music, and presentations of new activities unite the classroom, fostering connection and joy.
Time for running, climbing, and exploring in our secure outdoor learning space, which promotes physical health and a connection to nature. Children have two or three plays outdoors.
Children bring a packed lunch from home. They help prepare the classroom for lunch. Teachers will also sit and have lunch with the children encouraging grace and courtesy with eating at the table.
Throughout the morning children may choose to go into the music room if numbers allow. In the music room children sing, play all kinds of percussion instruments such as shakers, tappers etc, barred instruments which include all types of xylophones, learn music theory, learn to write music and study classical composers.
This work cycle is similar to the morning. It also allows for a greater focus on following through with an activity that was started earlier on.
Children use our secret garden as an outdoor work space. They plant, dig, take care of and enjoy this work space when the weather allows.
For children who need a nap , nap is available after lunch in the music room
Children go on regular guided nature walks around the school where we have some beautiful natural landscapes.
